Not Your Average Basics

My style is a total classic girl at heart. I love crisp button downs, denim, and neutral colors. Recently I thought I'd change it up a bit and incorporate more trendy elements into my basics. Let's start with my classic skinny jeans. They have always been my go-to and I haven't strayed away from the style until recently when I finally discovered that other denim styles can be flattering too. I've been loving wide leg denim such as these, and my favorite pair I wore earlier this summer in this post

Quite honestly I've been impressed at how many variations I could find on the classic button down shirt. The twist knot tops have been very popular recently and I've been loving mine styled with high waisted pants and shorts. It's nice to have a few pieces in my wardrobe that are cropped as I find that it really flatters a high waistline. Another variation is the cinched in waist, this can come as a belted top which is super elegant & different. If you're looking for more of a subtile change, I would opt for a patterned button down (my favorites are from Rails) or sleeve details such as tied sleeves or button detailing.
